Who should I be contacting during my application?
In relation to trade mark registration, it is important to contact the Intellectual Property Office relevant with your application to ensure that you will have the best chance of success.
It is dependent on where you are registering your mark to who you will encounter.
No matter who you are dealing with, it is important you are clear that they are not only there to consider your application but you need to be in contact whenever there is a change to your mark whether that is a change to your contact details, a change of ownership or a request to renew the mark.
UK trade marks
When you are looking to protect your trade mark in the UK, it may seem simple but the UK Intellectual Property Office is your point of call.
For more direct and quick contact, it may be best to contact them on the phone or through email. However, if you need to contact them by post, their contact details are as follows:
Concept House
Cardiff Road
Newport
South Wales
NP10 8QQ
Email enquiries@ipo.gov.uk.
Telephone: 0300 300 2000
If you instruct The Trademarkroom to assist you with your application, we can contact the UK IPO on your behalf to ensure that your queries are answered.
EU trade marks
As above for UK registrations, there is a one stop shop for all EU trade mark queries and applications and that is the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
This was previously known as the Office for the Harmonisation of the Internal Market, but after a simplification of the EU trade mar system, the office was renamed.
The EU IPO is based in Alicante, Spain. For this reason, it again we recommend directly any queries to us, The Trademarkroom, who then can contact the EU IPO on your behalf.
If you do need the EU IPO’s contact details, they are as follows,
Avenida de Europa, 4
E-03008 Alicante
SPAIN
Phone: +34 965 139 100
Email: information@euipo.europa.eu
Fax: +34 965 131 344
International registration
If you are looking to register your trade mark internationally, we recommend you do this through the Madrid System. If you are pursuing this, your application will go through the World Intellectual Property Office in the main.
As mentioned before, the World Intellectual Property Office is not based in the UK therefore can be difficult to get hold of. Therefore, The Trademarkroom can make any contact on your behalf.
The WIPO’s headquarters is based at:
World Intellectual Property Organization
34, chemin des Colombettes
CH-1211 Geneva 20, Switzerland
Tel: +41 22 338 9111
