How do I get international trademark protection

I Have an EU Trademark Can I Now Get an International Trademark?

If you have a trademark in the UK or the EU we may be able to extend that protection overseas with an International Trademark filed through WIPO.

Your EU or UK Trademark application will be known as your 'home registration' and the WIPO application will be based on either of these options.

Costs depend on which country/(ies) you wish to file in as each has its own designation fee. Costs will also depend on the numbers of classes you need (i.e. the goods and services you offer) and whether you are filing your trademark in colour or black and white.

We generally charge £350+VAT PER country. However if you wish to file in many jurisdictions we may be able to consider a discount. Official filing fees can be quoted on request.

You do not have to file in all your countries at once as the Madrid system allows for countries to be 'added on' and filed/paid for electronically once your initial application has been submitted, paid for and allocated an application number.

The system does have it flaws such as being a lengthy process. Also if objections/class queries are raised attorneys in that country have to be appointed. Another important point to note is that if your 'home' application fails- so will all your applications in WIPO.

It can be a complicated system so please get in touch if you'd like a free consultation.
