Radio X a new digital radio channel may have to re-brand after its trademark application has been opposed.

The new brand name is for Xfm .It was launched in September with DJs Chris Moyles and Johnny Vaughan. The similarly-named station Radio EXE owns the UK Trademark of Radio EXE which can be viewed here: https://www.ipo.gov.uk/tmcase/Results/1/UK00002636473

Radio X’s trademark application can be viewed here: https://www.ipo.gov.uk/tmcase/Results/1/UK00003121225

Radio X filed a trademark application in both the UK and the EU.

The Exeter based group has refused to comment on speculation it was behind the opposition.

The X trademark application is owed by Global, whose other stations include Smooth, Classic FM and Capital. They will have to stop using the name, appeal the decision, or negotiate a co-existence with the opposing party.

A spokesman for Global was not available for comment.

Radio X promised to play the "best fresh rock and guitar-based music across the UK" and be the "first truly male-focused" station, targeted at 25-44 year olds.

The Trademarkroom didn’t realise there was such a thing as male music!

If you are re-branding why not get in touch for a free consultation or order one of our trademark search and advice reports to avoid your trademark application being opposed!
