    In 2013 Cristiano Ronaldo applied to registered his clothing brand CR7; it's an EU Trademark and can be viewed here: https://www.ipo.gov.uk/tmcase/Results/4/EU012467874 Why did he do this?  If you have a brand, you will want to protect it and prevent third parties from using it without your consent.
